COLECOVISION CONSOLE

Coleco released the Colecovision system in August of 1982 for a retail price of $174.99. While the system cost more than the Atari 2600 VCS, it feaured more advanced hardware that was capable of near arcade quality audio, visuals, and game play.

The system was a hot-seller from the start and Coleco released many ports of popular arcade titles to keep this momentum going. The system also had an expansion port that would allow expansion modules to be used with it, including the ever popular Expansion Module #1, which allowed the Colecovision system to play Atari 2600 VCS game cartridges.

The early Colecovision systems came with black controllers that matched the console casing, but later models would sometimes include the white controllers more commonly found on the Coleco Adam computer system in place of the original black controllers.

Coleco began putting most of their research and development into their new Adam computer, but by the end of 1984, the
video game market had crashed and with it the amazing Colecovision system as well.
