Jumpan Junior had already successfully made its rounds on most of the personal computers of the time when Epyx decided to bring the game to the Colecovision system. Showing some similarities to Donkey Kong, Jumpman Junior added new twists to the platforming mix to form what is one of the most unique games to come out of this era of gaming. In Jumpman Junior, you take on the role of a bomb squad officer and you have to run around the various levels diffusing all of the bombs. You only need touch the bombs in order to diffuse them, but this can also trigger other dangers like disappearing ledges and fires to occur, so you have to watch your step. This version plays every bit as great as the various personal computer versions and it's just as much fun as ever. The Colecovision version of Jumpman Junior looks exactly like the personal computer versions, so much so that you probably couldn't tell them apart, even side-by-side. The same can also be said of the music, which was outstanding and catchy on the computers, and just as much so here on the Colecovision system. There's also quite a few different tunes, so the music in the game never seems to get repetitive. Jumpman Junior is one of the most underrated video games ever created and the developers of this Colecovision version put great care in making this port absolutely perfect. It's still as much fun today as it was 20+ years ago, which is a testament to just how outstanding this game truly is. |
