MODULE #2
In 1982 Coleco released the second expansion module for their Colecovision system. This module was basically a steering wheel along with a foot pedal. They packed the unit with the arcade racing hit Turbo. The package retailed for $54.95 and was quite successful during the 1982 holiday shopping season. The steering wheel module was one of the few available for home use at the time and made controlling the various racing titles very realistic. Turbo was a great game to include with the unit as it offered up a very arcade-quality racing experience when combined with this well-built expansion module. Pitstop, Turbo, and Destructor were three of the more popular titles that took advantage of this steering wheel module. There would probably have been more, but the video game market crashed and the Colecovision system along with it. If you do some searching around the net you can still locate one of these units brand new. I picked mine up last month for $75 still sealed inside the original box. Not too bad considering it's over 25 years old. |
