ROLLER
CONTROLLER
Coleco released the Roller Controller in 1983 with a retail price of $54.95. Included in the package was the Roller Controller trackball, Coleco ADAM adapter, and Slither game cartridge. The Roller Controller features a nice trackball, and it also had slots for two ColecoVision controllers to snap into. The controller features 4 fire buttons, two for right-handed gamers and two for left-handed gamers. The trackball wasn't as responsive as some others of this time period, but it worked well enough. The pack-in game Slither is basically a clone of Centipede and plays almost exactly the same. It's a great game to show of the Roller Controller and is arguably even more fun to play than Centipede. The Roller Controller is probably the most practical and useful controller accessory for the ColecoVision system, and all of the games that support it are generally made quite a bit better and more arcade realistic when using it. It even comes with a connector that allows the ColecoVision or ADAM systems to power the unit, eliminating the need for batteries. |
